I've never attended art school, since I believe technique is not the primary goal of art. At the age of 15 I started painting large surfaces and panels with acrylic ink. My work has gradually evolved to to small, intimate oil paintings on wood and canvas, technically more sensitive and accurate. I've participated in various exhibitions alternatives in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, until 2006, when I moved to Brussels.
My work is essentially inspired by the existentialist writings of authors such as Kant, Nieztche, Sartre and Camus, who always place the human being at the heart of issues. The use of portraits in a peremptory manner aims to humanize art. The surreal colors, movements and proportions give a more intimate, non photographic tone to each individual painting.
The technique is based on aesthetic movements such as graphite, mixed with classic and modern brushstrokes. The concepts / images of some of my favourite painters and writers are put in new contexts. Topics of interest are issues such as the bohemian life, the nightlife, the burlesque and fanciful characters who eventually represent the humanity and its pleasures deep inside.
The process of painting starts with the development of the concept for many days or weeks. It is followed by the painting itself, a flow of a few hours of intensive painting. The process is therefore a constant conceptualization of work before its materialising in fact. The paintings have also inherited characteristics of important Brazilian artistic movements, as the use of of debauchery and marginalised themes.
